ONCE
SAVED, ALWAYS SAVED??
The Eternal Security Teaching
Just what is meant by the "eternal security teaching"? Some speak harshly against it, while others loyally defend it. Those who hold fast to it, claim a Biblical foundation. Those who oppose it try to prove their point with the Bible. Is it a Biblical doctrine? Or is it a false and harmful doctrine? Will accepting this teaching end in strengthening or in weakening confidence on "all things" in the Word of God? Will sin look more hateful or less so to the one who embraces the teaching of eternal security? These questions should cause us to want the truth.
The Eternal Security Teaching Defined
There is probably no teaching that has more appeal to the TRUE believer than this doctrine. There is no teaching that exalts Jesus Christ more than this one does. Eternal Security means that we are eternally secure and we KNOW that Heaven is ours . . . just as if we were already there! (John 20:31; 1 John 5:13).
Consider the Following
- Eternal life once received can NEVER be forfeited by any act or determination of the human will.
- Eternal life is a gift from God. IF He gives it to you, He will NEVER take it back!
- IF you deny eternal security, then you believe that salvation is by works, by means of human merit, and NOT by our faith and God's grace.
- To deny eternal security is to seriously belittle the finished Work of Christ.
- TRUE Christians may backslide and endanger their reward at the Judgment Seat, but they CANNOT endanger or lose salvation.
- TRUE Christians may lose the close fellowship with the Master, but they can NEVER lose their salvation.
- TRUE Christians may lose the JOY of their salvation, but can NEVER lose their salvation.
Three Things About the Eternal Security Doctrine.
- 1.IF a person is truly born again by the Spirit of God, he will not want to sin. He is kept by God and is eternally secure.
- 2. IF a person is truly born again by the Spirit of God, he will sin because of his sinful nature that remains with him, but since he is born again, God will chastise him and bring him to repentance again.
- 3. If a person is truly born again by the Spirit of God, he is saved eternally. Since the Holy Spirit abides in all TRUE believers, when we sin, our conscience (Holy Spirit) burdens our soul until we make it right with God.
Assurance of salvation is the right and heritage of every child of God, every true believer in Jesus Christ. God wants saved people to KNOW that they are saved. The Gospel of John was written to show us HOW to be saved (Jn.20:31). The Epistle of John tells us how we may KNOW that we are saved (1 Jn.5:13). Eternal security gives our soul a solid base that God has given man something that is eternal (Tit.1:2). Our assurance rests upon the Promises in God's Word, and our salvation rests upon Christ alone. Christ saves us from sin's penalty. He paid that penalty for us! Here are few of the many precious Scriptures stating Biblical assurance: I Jn.3:2, 20-21; 2:1, 17, 24; Rom. 8:16; Heb. 7:25; Jn. 1:12, 13; I Jn. 5:13; Jude 20:24.
