ONCE
SAVED, ALWAYS SAVED??
Eternal Security Is True According to the Bible
Satan is so happy at all the turmoil that conditional security people creates, because it hinders a Christian's effectiveness and spiritual walk.
Once Satan or these eternal security opponents, starts a Christian to worry about his salvation, spiritual things come to a stand still. The vulnerable Christian then begins to think maybe, just maybe, conditional security is true, and then they depend on their own abilities and works, instead of depending on God for their spiritual needs, growth and maturity.
WHY aren't more Christians standing up and speaking out against this FALSE and UNBIBLICAL Conditional Security? Conditional Security is a form of works-based salvation spouted by modern day Judaizers, and should be condemned as a false gospel, a damnable heresy (2 Pet.2:1).
The Apostle Paul Would Condemn Conditional Security
Conditional security people are guilty of the same thing that Paul warned Peter about . . . leading people to believe that obeying laws and rules, was what the Lord wanted from His followers.
The conditional security people just moved the idea of doing good works one erroneous step further . . . placing works AFTER the acceptance of Christ. What they fail to realize is that it matters not where you place the works-for-salvation requirement, whether it be before coming to Christ or after, it is absolutely NOT required!
I DO believe in works after being born again, but NOT as a demanded or required part of salvation on our part. I think IF a born again child of God does NOT produce fruit AFTER salvation, it is very doubtful they are truly saved. BUT . . . that work, that fruit, that service has absolutely NOTHING to do with acquiring or gaining our salvation. ETERNAL salvation is a GIFT from our gracious and Almighty God because of our faith in Christ!
The conditional security people insist that one must follow rules and laws . . . to be good . . . to NOT sin, in order to obtain or to keep one's salvation, and this is actually in direct opposition to the true Gospel. Don't these people read the Bible? ALL people sin! (Rom.3:10,23; 1 John 1:8,10).
Preying on the Spiritually Weak, Immature, or Confused
Conditional security people are really good at twisting Scriptures to make it look as though they are supported by the Bible. They are NOT supported by the Bible! That nagging fear of 'What if I'm not truly saved?' is implanted into immature believers. Every Christian has these sorts of doubts from time to time. I don't know one that hasn't. In one of my Bible classes several years ago, a new gentleman attended. After class, he stayed behind when the others left. "Can I talk to you?" he asked. Certainly! I always have time for my people. He was seriously doubting his salvation. Was he going to Heaven? I stayed and read many Scriptures to him. He seemed to be comforted by what I had read. The next week, he was not there. I asked about him. He had passed away. Then they told me that he was a retired Baptist preacher. So . . . it IS common to have occasional doubts, even preachers have doubts at time! Satan never quits!
I suggest that you copy down some of your favorite comfort "eternal salvation" verses. I have what I call "Death Bed Verses" that I give to people who are terminally ill and doubting salvation. They can read them over and over and it has helped many. Whenever doubt sets in, open the Bible and read! Your doubt will flee, as your faith gets a big boost.
Some ask: How can an all powerful, all loving, pure and holy God totally forgive me and accept me into His family forever? He knows my faults and sinful nature and He knows that I will sin again. True! BUT, when God justifies us (Rom.3:24; 5:1), we are justified for ever! When we are born again, there is a trade that takes place, an extremely unusual trade! Our nasty, dirty, vile sins, past, present and future are traded for the pure righteousness of Christ (1 Cor.1:30). Thank You Jesus!
Man is NOT good, nor can he be good. Even after coming to Christ, man CANNOT be good all the time. As I think of the apostle Paul, I cringe at what he wrote in Romans 7:15-24. I can actually feel his deep sorrow at not being able to do right all the time. The good things he wanted to do, he didn't do, but the bad things he didn't want to do, that he did. I know exactly what he meant. Did Paul believe in eternal salvation? YES! Absolutely! He did (Rom.5:1-10,15,18,21; 6:22-23; 8:1,6.32-34; 10:13; Eph.1:5-7; 1 Thes.4:13-18; 1 Tim.6:12,19; Tit. 1:2; 2:13). And so do I.
Scriptures tell us that when Christians sin, they are disciplined (chastised, corrected). It says absolutely NOTHING about them being cut off from God for all eternity! (Heb.12:6-11).
The conditional security people say that one should be perfect all the time. My friend . . . THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE! Personally, I think these people are arrogant. Many of them believe that THEY are one of the ones who will NOT be going to Hell, because of their superb performance. There probably is not one single conditional security proponent who thinks that he or she is going to Hell. They believe that ALL conditional security proponents are going to Heaven, they and they alone. What does that sound like to you? Once Saved, Always Saved . . . but they sure do go about it in a warped, ridiculous way!
I have had prison inmates write me and try to argue with me on this Conditional Salvation doctrine. I have hundreds of articles that I send to inmates to help them in their Christian life. One man in particular comes to mind. He had come across our article Once Saved, Always Saved that I had sent to someone at his unit. He wrote me to "set me straight." It was quite a letter. It actually caused me to pull up the article and re-read it to see if it were wrong. It said exactly what I believe. I wrote back to him and told him that I would keep my stand on OSAS. He wrote again, wanting to argue it. I told him that I argue with NO one. I state my position and stand by it. He never wrote again.
The conditional security believer actually is telling us: "I'm a better Christian than you, because I follow all the rules all the time! My good and righteous ways assures me that I will get to Heaven!" This SO reminds me of The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector. (Luke 18:9-14).
Conditional security teaching totally contradicts the Bible! 1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (KJV)
WHAT Limitations??
NOT one conditional security supporter can state: #1 HOW many sins? #2 WHAT kind of sins? #3 HOW long can a person continue in that sin? #4 Just WHAT does it actually take (in their erroneous mind) for a person to lose their salvation? Yet they continue on with their damnable heresy (2 Pet.2:1).
What about 1 Cor.6:9-10; Rev.21:8? about drunkards and such not being admitted into heaven, yet they are still unable to tell us exactly what the limitations are.
Will getting drunk once cause one to forfeit one's salvation? Or is it ten times? 100 times? Does this apply to beer, whiskey, or what? What about lies? Once, twice, 100 times? WHAT! What about idolatry? Does this apply only to statues? Or does it apply to money too? They give absolutely NO answers whatsoever! IF conditional security were true, wouldn't God give us some straight up limits? Wouldn't there be some solid "do's," "don'ts," number of times, some kind of limits that Christians could go by?
Do Conditional Salvation people really expect anyone to believe that they are more pure, more holy, more good than those of us who are staunch supporters of Eternal Salvation? Again, I immediately think of The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector. (Luke 18:9-14).
Are ANY of these people "more saved" than someone who rejects their 'conditional security' heresy? Aren't these people really arrogant to conclude that those who believe in OSAS are bound for Hell unless they go along with 'conditional security?'
The 'License to Sin'
I think what bothers me most about conditional salvation people is that they say that we Once Saved, Always Saved people have a "license to sin." How utterly ridiculous! ANY TRUE born again Christian, revolts against the idea of sin! We do NOT in any way, shape or form WANT to sin. We cannot sin . . . meaning we are NOT willing to sin! 1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. (KJV) . . . The Holy Spirit Who abides in us will NOT permit it!
Anyone who is truly a child of God, made possible only by Christ's Sacrifice on the cross, is well aware of the ultimate price that Jesus paid for us, and we do NOT take it lightly. We do NOT make a practice of abusing our liberty in Christ.
Yes! There will always have lazy Christians who abuse ANY doctrine, and OSAS is no exception. The fact that a Christian friend gets drunk or does drugs does NOT mean that OSAS is false. It means that person is stupid, OR that he/she was never saved to start with. ONLY God knows if a person is sincere when they accept Christ. SO many people PROFESS to be "Christian." BUT . . . IF that person does not POSSESS Christ in their heart, they are NOT saved! Take C-H-R-I-S-T out of Christian . . . what do you have? NOTHING!
The people who spout this stupid "license to sin" argument do NOT understand God's free grace . . . which I think is an outright insult to God. Wasn't it God Himself who decided that faith in His Son is the ONLY condition for a person's salvation?
Those conditional security advocates who say we have "license to sin," say that we can get drunk on Saturday . . . thus we lose our salvation (they say), BUT, we can then turn right around on Sunday, ask God for forgiveness and once again "be saved." Doesn't the Bible say that Christ died "once for all"? (Heb 7:27 Heb 9:12, 26, 28 Heb 10:2,10, 12,14). Are these people trying to crucify my dear Jesus all over again?
We as people, were born physically ONCE! We cannot go back into our mother's womb and be re-born! We as new creatures (2 Cor.5:17) in Christ, are born again spiritually ONCE! Once and ONLY once! We CANNOT ever be re-born spiritually, any more than we can be re-born physically. When God accepts us into His family, He does NOT impute any sins to us . . . past, present or future. Christ has reconciled us to the Father . . . ALL our sins are gone! (2 Cor.5:19; Rom.5:10).
