ONCE
SAVED, ALWAYS SAVED??
BELIEFS: Eternal Security vs Conditional Security
The Gospel
Eternal Security: Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. (KJV)
Conditional Security: Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. (KJV)
Salvation
Eternal Security: Instantaneous and complete work of God that gives TRUE believers an eternal result when they believe God and sincerely repent. (1 Jn.5:10-12)
Conditional Security: Not a one time act but a continuing process of believing and keeping from sin.
Faith
Eternal Security: Once a person believes on Christ, he/she never stops believing.
Conditional Security: Believers decide they don't want to believe any more. A person either believes or does not believe . . . period!
Sin
Eternal Security: ANY sin breaks fellowship with God . . . but does NOT destroy the relationship with God. (1 Jn.1:9). IF sin continues to dominate a professing Christian's life, it is highly unlikely that person was ever saved.
Conditional Security: Sin can break a person's relationship with God if serious enough and continued. Any Christian who sins forfeits his/her salvation. Questions? What kind of sin? And to what extent?
Atonement
Eternal Security: The death of Christ Jesus on the cross atoned for ALL a believer's sin: past, present and future.
Conditional Security: Past sins atoned for. Christ paid it ALL! He does NOT have to re-do anything! Once for all was sufficient! ETERNAL redemption Heb.9:12. ONCE for ALL Heb.10:10. WHAT don't they understand???
Works
Eternal Security: Works have NO part in our obtaining salvation. Works are a RESULT (fruit) of salvation, NOT the root (cause) of salvation (Eph.2:8-10)
Conditional Security: Salvation is not by works but a believer must remain steadfast, endure persevere, abide and obey the commandments of the Lord. He/she must acknowledge the Lordship of Christ in every way. Sounds like works to me.
Assurance
Eternal Security: Salvation is sure because it is a Gift from God! (Ep.2:8; Rom.6:23). We can KNOW we have eternal life (1 Jn.5:13; Jn. 20:31). It is ETERNAL . . . never ending in nature (Jn. 3:15-17; 5:24).
Conditional Security: Full assurance is not possible because a person does not know if salvation will continue or end. That is NOT true at all.
Motive for right living
Eternal Security: When a person is TRULY saved, sin is a no-no to them. God takes away the 'want to sin' and replaces it with a deep desire to please Him. Then, when we sin (and we will), we have a nagging, non-stop need to get right with God . . . NOW! (1 Jn. 1:9). Our motive is to love the Lord God who died for us.
Conditional Security: If a person were eternally secure, they could sin all they wanted to. Believers must be careful because salvation can be lost. I CANNOT go along with this! (Rom. 6:1-2,15). We do NOT sin all that we want to! Ridiculous!
A TRUE believer can NEVER be lost . . . lose his/her salvation! If anyone is lost he/she was NEVER saved in the first place. Eternal life would NOT be eternal IF it could be lost. HOW can salvation be salvation IF it could be lost? If a single saved person is ever lost, God failed, because He promised ETERNAL life! IF a single saved person is ever lost, Christ is insufficient to keep them saved and God is unfaithful to them. Once in grace always in grace and once a son always a son is perfectly scriptural. ONCE SAVED, ALWAYS SAVED! In Christ once, in Christ FOREVER!
