How Can We Live a Spirit-Filled Life?
Dear one, our awesome God wants every believer to be filled with the Spirit . . . but there are so many Christians who are not sure what this means or what it looks of feels like to be filled with the Spirit. It would help us understand this, we must know that whatever fills us controls us.
Ephesians 5:18-21 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; 21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. (KJV) . . . The apostle Paul clearly tells us that drunkenness as a destructive example of filling and warns us to avoid it. Every TRUE believer is indwelt by the Holy Spirit, but the extent of Spirit’s power is determined by the Christian's will to comply.
To be filled with the Spirit is a voluntary and willing CHOICE of a believer to surrender your life to the Holy Spirit's control! A person must sense the Holy Spirit’s Presence and SUBMIT to His leadership and guidance, OBEY His warnings, and depend upon His strength. The proof of the Holy Spirit's control is revealed in a person's character, deeds and words! ALL who have yielded their lives to Christ Jesus’ leadership are continually being transformed into His likeness. So, it makes perfect sense that the degree of submission decides the level of change in that person’s life. When the Spirit is in control of our lives, He does through us what we cannot do for ourselves.
Each believer MUST decide who rules his life . . . we can eagerly and willingly surrender to Christ Jesus OR deliberately and stubbornly go our own way. But what about those who sit on the fence? Anyone who thinks they have not made a decision are wrong! Dear one, in God’s eyes, you have chosen to stubbornly go your own way. You may THINK that you can avoid the issue by making no choice at all, and sit on the fence . . . BUT you are opting for self-rule. The fullness of the Spirit and a Godly character await only those who choose Jesus over self.
