Salvation is GIFT, Free and Clear!
Romans 5:14-17 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. 16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. 17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) (KJV) . . . Emphasis mine.
Did you ever consider just what these verses state? Did you know that the words free gift are right here in the Holy Word of God for us to see and apply to our hearts? And what awesome and wonderful words they are! What a precious Saviour we have! If only people would consider Jesus as they should, they would SEE that He is the Greatest Blessing God has bestowed upon this earth (us), and the Greatest Treasure we could ever find anywhere!
Eternal life is indeed a free gift, bought and paid for in full, by the precious Blood of Christ Jesus. 1 Peter 1:18-19 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: (KJV)
It is this absolute and unconditional FACT that makes me wonder what those people who deny the Eternal Security of the believer are thinking. How can a free gift from God, ever be taken away or lost by those who are washed in the precious Blood of Jesus? The whole idea of losing one's salvation sinfully requires Works Salvation to keep it. IF God gives us the gift of salvation, and we accept and receive it, then WHY would He ever take it away from us? God is NOT the author of confusion (1 Cor.14:33), and that is what it would be IF we could lose our salvation!
Do people really think that the Word of God makes a mistake when it describes salvation as a free gift?
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (KJV) . . . The gift of God!
Eternal life is a free gift from God. It is NOT something that we earn, or that we must pay back. Consider the foolishness of someone who receives a gift given out of love and then offers to pay for it. Our salvation is a GIFT of God, not something of our own doing (Eph.2:8-9). God saved us because of His mercy, not because of any good things we have done (Titus 3:5).This verse is the heart of the Gospel.
Any laborer is worthy of his hire, and so it is with the wages we shall receive at the end of this earthly life. The wages the sinner (unbeliever) shall receive will be eternal death. Eternal life is in NO way the wages of our righteousness for nothing can earn it. It is "the gift of God." We receive eternal life only by the amazing grace of God! Jesus Christ our Lord, is the righteous Channel to it, and the ONLY Channel to it (John 14:6). “Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and hath made us kings and priests unto God and His Father, to Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen!” (Rev. 1:5-6).
Death and life are before ALL people who hear the Gospel. The one is the proper reward for sin; the other, the absolutely free "Gift of God" to sinners, “in Jesus Christ our Lord.” The one is the conscious sense of the hopeless eternal loss; the other is the conscious possession and enjoyment of eternal Heaven.
Deut. 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: (KJV) . . . May I suggest you choose life with Jesus!
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. (KJV) . . . The gift of God! Any time God repeats himself, it it important!
By God’s kindness and mercy, NOT by our own merit, and certainly NOT because we have any claim on it. This is a favorite doctrine of Paul, as it is with everyone who love the Lord Jesus in sincerity (Rom.1:7; 3:24; Eph.6:24).
God’s grace bestowed on us through our faith, in connection with believing (Rom.1:17; 4:17).
Salvation NEVER proceeds from yourself or anything that you do. True faith is the gift of God. It exists in the mind only when the Holy Spirit produces it there, and is, in common with every other Christian blessing, traced to His activity on the heart (Gal.5:22-23). God justifies the believer, NOT for the value of his belief, but for the value of HIM (Jesus) in whom he believes. The start of faith, as well as the increase of faith, is from the Holy Spirit of God, by an internal enlightenment in the soul. But, faith comes by the means which man must benefit himself of, that is, hearing the word of God (Rom.10:17), and prayer (Lk.11:13), even though the blessing is completely of God (1 Cor.3:6-7). It is the gift of God . . . salvation by grace is God’s gift to us. It is NEVER by merit; it is exclusively by favor, lest any man should boast. IF works contributed to salvation, think how much bragging would be going on! People would glory in their own works or worth, as men always do, and if they think they have anything of their own which contributes to their salvation, boasting would abound (Rom.3:27; 4:2). God is SO wise!
Dear one, I firmly believe once you are saved, you will ALWAYS BE SAVED! Those who left us, left us because THEY WERE NOT OF US to begin with. 1 John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us. (KJV)
Some false teachers claim that Judas (one of Jesus' Apostles) was saved at first, but then fell from grace. That is simply not true. There is absolutely NO Biblical record of Judas ever being saved, nor of showing any signs of being saved. Judas was a known thief. John 12:6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein. (KJV)
Judas, like so many people today, had religion without truth, and was a professor of Christ but NOT a possessor of Christ! A person must have Christ in their heart, and obey His commandments (John 14:15) or they are NOT a Christian!
The burden of sin was borne on the cross by the Lord Jesus. Anyone who places the burden of sin upon a sinner to be saved is spreading a false gospel of self-righteousness. Jesus paid it all.
Romans 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. (KJV)
