What is apostasy? What is an apostate? There are so many words that describe this circumstance, that describes an apostate. Take your pick: deserter of one’s faith; one of little faith; continual backslider; defector; traitor to one’s faith; heretic; skeptic; dissident; dissembler; nonconformist; rebel; insurgent; mutinous; defiant; opposing; separatist; radical; agnostic; freethinker; unbeliever; atheist; hypocrites; idolaters; etc. Apostasy is when people turn away from God’s Truth and accept and embrace false teachings. Backsliding is to draw back or apostatize (relapse) in matters of religion. This may be either in part or complete; and may be both in doctrine and in moral matters.
Oh! How miserable to be a backslider. Of all unhappy things that can befall a person, I think “backsliding” is the worst. It’s like a stranded ship, a broken-winged eagle, a garden overrun with weeds, a harp without strings, a church in ruins . . . all these are sad, but a backslider is worse. I believe “once saved, always saved” and that TRUE union with Christ can never be broken. But I do think that a person may fall so far away that he shall lose sight of his own grace, and wonder about his salvation. If this is not Hell, it must be the next thing to it! A conscience that won’t let you rest, a mind that can’t stand itself, a heart that seems to be breaking from all the sin, a memory that keeps blaming, a heart pierced with the Lord’s Words, a spirit that keeps accusing. Isn’t this is Hell on Earth?
Apostate Christianity absolutely ignores the Bible’s teaching about discipline. Many of today’s churches are welcoming homosexuals with open arms. Some churches even accept homosexual pastors. This is an abomination to God! (Lev.18:22; 20:13).
Apostate Christianity is like the Laodicean church in Revelation; lukewarm, indifferent, not concerned with right and wrong or good and evil. They take a neutral position, live and let live, they don’t want to rock the boat, don’t want to cause waves. They sit on the fence, not being able to make up their minds which side they are on. They try to serve two masters (Mat.6:24), God and self (the world, mammon). It won’t work! TRUE Christianity is NOT a gray area. You are either for Christ OR you are against Him (Mat.12:30). You are either God’s child OR you are the devils’ child (1 John 3:8,10; Acts 13:10; Eph.2:1-5). Which are you?
Hypocrites are those who put on a mask and imagines himself to be what he is not; a deceiving imposter in religion. Our Lord severely rebuked the scribes and Pharisees for their hypocrisy (Mat.6:2, 5, 16, and chapter 23). The hypocrite's hope shall perish (Job 8:13). The Hebrew word for hypocrite means godless or profane, as found in Jer.23:11; polluted with evil. All disciples are believers, but not all believers are disciples.
Idolatry is image-worship or any divine honor paid to any created object or person other than the Creator God of the Bible. Paul describes the origin of idolatry in Rom.1:21-25: men forsook God, and sank into ignorance and moral corruption (Rom.1:28). In Scripture, idolatry is regarded as of heathen origin. The first and second commandments to Israel are directed against idolatry of all forms.
Jude’s little Book reminds his readers of God’s sure to come judgment on those who had left the faith in the past. It is a warning against false teachers; especially on two of the basic beliefs of Christianity: the incarnation of Christ and Christian conduct. Jude wrote to combat these false teachings and to encourage true doctrine and right conduct. Heb. 3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. (KJV)
Apostate Christianity ignores what the Bible states about Jesus being the only way to salvation. Two thirds of professing evangelicals doubt Jesus’ Words.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. (KJV)
John 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. (KJV)
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (KJV) . . . A recent Newsweek poll shows a shocking number of people who say they are “born again” reject the above words. 68% believe that “good” people of other faiths can also go to Heaven (without Jesus).
Apostasy shall abound in the last days.
Mat.24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. (KJV) . . . The last days are from the resurrection of Christ to the Second Coming of Christ. We are living in the “last days.”
Describing Apostates Chapter 1
• Apostates described.
Deut. 13:13 Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known; (KJV) . . . Godless people, false teachers (children of the devil) mislead people to worship useless gods.
Heb.3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. (KJV) . . . Many places in the Bible warns us not to “harden” our hearts. To stubbornly set ourselves against God is to make it that we are no longer able to turn to Him for forgiveness. The Israelites hardened their hearts when they disobeyed God’s command to conquer the Promised Land (Num.13-14; 20; Ps.95). Be careful to obey God’s Word, and not allow your heart to become hardened.
• Persecution tends to make apostates.
Luke 8:11-15 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. (KJV) . . . “Path” people, like many of the religious leaders, then and now, refuse to believe God’s message. “Rock” people, like many in the crowds who followed Jesus, believed His message but never got around to doing anything about it. “Thorn” people, overcome by worries and the lure of worldly treasures, leave no room in their lives for God. “Good soil” people, in contrast to all the other groups, follow Jesus no matter what the cost. Which type of soil are you?
• A worldly spirit tends to make apostates.
2 Tim. 4:10 For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia. (KJV) . . . Demas had been one of Paul’s co-workers (Col. 4:14; Philemon 1:24). He had deserted Paul because he loved this world, loved worldly values and worldly pleasures. Do you love what the world has to offer . . . wealth, power, pleasure . . . even if gaining it means hurting people and neglecting the work God has given you to do?
• Apostates never belonged to Christ to start with.
1 John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us. (KJV) . . . Some people may call themselves Christians, but that does NOT mean they are God’s children. Going to church could be just a family tradition. Maybe they like the social and business contacts they make there. Or maybe going to church is a habit. Unless going to church is a heart reason, a Christ-centered reason, you may as well stop going for it is not doing you any good. Don’t settle for less than the Best. You can become personally acquainted with Jesus Christ and become a loyal, trustworthy follower.
• No TRUE believer (saints) ever becomes an apostate.
Heb.6:9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak. (KJV) . . . Better blessings belong to those who hang in there!
Heb.10:39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. (KJV) . . . TRUE believers (Christians) are NOT people who turn back and are lost. Instead, we have faith and are saved.
• It is impossible to restore apostates.
Hebrews 6:4-6 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. (KJV) . . . These verses refer to professors (people who claim to be Christians), NOT possessors (true born again believers) of Christ! Those referred to here were enlightened to salvation through Christ. They tasted and they were convicted by the Holy Spirit, but they fell away because they were never saved in the first place. Heb.6:9 makes this clear. Heb.6:9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak. (KJV) . . . IF a person is TRULY saved, they may stray, they may backslide, but they absolutely WILL come back to God. No one who is TRULY saved can ever lose their salvation (John 1:12-13; 10:27-29).
Actually Heb.6:4-6 tell me that it is impossible for a saved person to be lost. It is impossible. . . . If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance. IF a person were saved, then could be lost, it would be impossible for that person to ever be saved again.
2 Peter 2:20-22 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire. (KJV) . . . Peter is NOT speaking of “born again” believers, but of a person who has learned about Christ and how to be saved, and was influenced by Christians, but THEN rejects the Truth and returns to his/her sin. A person like this is worse off than before, because he/she has rejected the only way out of sin, and the only possible Way of salvation. They are like a person who can’t swim and are drowning in the ocean, but refuses to grab the life-saving rope thrown to him/her. Anyone who turns away from Christ throws away his/her only means of escape from God’s wrath and Hell.
Matthew 12:43-45 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. 44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. 45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation. (KJV) . . . Jesus was describing the attitude of Israel and the religious leaders. To simply clean up one’s life without filling it with God leaves a lot of room for Satan to enter. Getting rid of sin in our lives is the first step, BUT, we must also take the second step: filling our lives with God’s Word and the Holy Spirit. Jesus was illustrating our faulty human tendency . . . our desire to reform often does not last long. It is not enough to be emptied of evil; we must then be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit to accomplish God’s new purpose in our lives.
• Guilt and punishment of apostates.
Zeph. 1:4-6 I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and the name of the Chemarims with the priests; 5 And them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them that worship and that swear by the Lord, and that swear by Malcham; 6 And them that are turned back from the Lord; and those that have not sought the Lord, nor enquired for him. (KJV) . . . When Israel arrived in the Promised Land, God ordered them to completely rid the land of its pagan inhabitants, who worshiped idols. But Israel did NOT do it. So, slow but sure, they began to worship the Canaanites’ gods. The Canaanites believed in many gods that represented many aspects of life, and the chief god was Baal, symbolizing strength and fertility. God was extremely angry when His people turned from Him to Baal. More than just a statue, an idol can be anything worshipped more than God. Idol worship is common today, for people trust in themselves, money, or power but not in God. But in the end, all idols will prove worthless, and the true God will prevail. Seek God first (Mat.6:33), and have no other gods before Him (Ex.20:3). Israel worshipped the Lord God, PLUS all the other gods of the land. They added the “best” of pagan worship to true faith in God. God commands that He alone be worshiped (Ex.20:1-5); so the people committed a horrible sin. One of these other gods was Molech, the national god of the Ammonites. Molech worship included child sacrifice, an abominable sin. From the time of Moses, the Israelites had been warned about worshiping this false god (Lev.18:21; 20:5), but they refused to take heed. Because of their sins, God would destroy them.
Heb.10:39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. (KJV) . . . God never is pleased with just an outward profession, and outward duties and outward services of those who do not hang in there. He looks down on them with great displeasure. But all those who have been faithful to Him, have reason to hope for His grace to help them continue to live by faith, until they receive His Promises, salvation of their souls in Heaven with Him. Living by faith, and dying in faith, our souls are safe for ever.
2 Peter 2:17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever. (KJV) . . . The Word of Truth is the Water of Life. It refreshes all souls that receive it. But ALL deceivers (apostates, false teachers) spread and promote error. They are like wells without water! There is no truth in them. As clouds obstruct the sun light, so does the erroneous counsel of false teachers for there is no truth in their words. Christians should keep close to the Word of God, and watch against all who seek to confuse them. A state of apostasy is worse than a state of ignorance. To speak evil of the good way of God, and to charge falsely against the ONLY Way of Truth, shall bring heavy condemnation. Is your backsliding a grief to you? Continuing on it could bring on the eternal agony of Hell. Turning back to Jesus, and staying there, shall bring eternal life in Heaven! Only Jesus can save you!
• Cautions against becoming an apostate.
Heb.3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. (KJV) . . . Our hearts turn away from the living God (rebellion) when we stubbornly refuse to believe Him. If we persist in our unbelief, God will eventually leave us alone in our sin (Rom.1:26-27). But God can give us new hearts, new desires, and new spirits (Eze.36:22-27). To prevent having an unbelieving heart, stay in fellowship with other believers, talk daily about your mutual faith, be aware of the deceitfulness of sin (it attracts but also destroys), and encourage each other with love and concern.
2 Peter 3:17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. (KJV) . . . Beware my friends, know this. Always be on guard so that you will not be led away by the errors of wicked people and fall from your safe position.
• Apostasy shall abound in the last days.
Mat.24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. (KJV) . . . False teaching and loose morals brings a destructive disease . . . the loss of true love for God and others. Sin cools your love for God and others, by turning your focus to yourself and what the world can offer you. You cannot truly love if you think only of yourself.
2 Thes. 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; (KJV) . . . If our faith is strong, we do not need to be afraid of what lies ahead, Antichrist is no threat to us. God is in control, and He will be victorious over the Antichrist. Our job is to be prepared for Christ’s return and to spread the Gospel so that even more people will also be prepared.
1 Tim. 4:1-3 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. (KJV) . . . It is not enough for a teacher to appear to know what he/she is talking about, is disciplined and moral, or says that he/she is speaking for God. If his/her words contradict the Bible in ANY way, his/her teaching is false. We must guard against any teaching that causes believers to dilute or reject any aspect of their faith. False teaching can be either very direct OR extremely subtle. False teachers were/are hypocritical liars who encouraged people to follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Satan deceives people by offering a clever imitation of the real thing. False teachers often give strict rules (such as forbidding people to marry or to eat certain foods). This makes them appear self disciplined and righteous. Strict disciplines for the body, however, CANNOT and WILL NOT remove ANY sin (Col. 2:20-23). We must be very careful and NOT be overly impressed by a teacher’s style or credentials. Some people really have a gift of a smooth way of talking, of convincing you. As the saying goes, “He could sell ice cubes to Eskimos.” BEWARE! We must look to his/her teaching about Jesus Christ. What he/she teaches about our Lord Jesus Christ reveals the source of his/her message. Is it the Truth from the Bible? Or is it of the devil?
Apostates are Lukewarm Chapter 2
In Revelation we see seven churches. The last church is the Laodicean church.
Rev. 3:14-22 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; 15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: 18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. 21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. 22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. (KJV) . . . Laodicea was the richest of the seven cities, known for its banking industry, manufacture of wool, and a medical school that produced eye salve. But the city had always had a problem with its water supply. An aqueduct was built to bring water to the city. By the time the water reached the city, it was neither hot nor cool, but sickeningly lukewarm. The church had become as tasteless as the nauseating lukewarm water that flowed to the city.
Laodicea was the last and worst of the seven churches of Asia. Our Lord Jesus models Himself, “The Amen” (Rev.1:18), One who is steady and unchangeable in all His intentions and Promises. If your religion is worth anything, it is worth everything! We must really be sincere and earnest in our devotion to Jesus. BUT, there are so many people who profess to be Christians, who are neither hot nor cold; they are lukewarm. Jesus promises a severe punishment if they keep on as they are. They give a false opinion of Christianity, like it were an unholy religion. People around them decide that it could bring no real satisfaction, or its professors would have been more staunch in their stand for the Lord, and not ready to seek pleasure, wealth or happiness from the world. Some causes of hypocrisy are indifference, self-conceit and self-delusion. Just because a person says (professes) to be a Christian, does NOT make them one! There is a BIG difference between what they think of themselves, and what Christ thinks of them. So many people are cheating their souls! There are millions in Hell today, who once thought they were far on their way to Heaven. People just simply refuse to believe God’s Word! Please do not flatter and deceive yourselves. Professors (hypocrites) grow prouder day by day, and they become carnal (of the world); lusting for the temporary treasures the world can offer (Mat. 6:19-20). Their condition causes God’s wrath to ignite. The Laodicean church was poor; miserably poor in God’s eyes, but they thought they were rich. They were blind to their condition, just like millions today. They could not see the danger that lay ahead. They were NOT justified (Rom.3:20; 5:1) nor were they sanctified (John 17:17, 19; Eph. 5:26; 1 Cor. 1:30). They were full of sin and shame; their filthy rags (Isa.64:6) would defile them. They were naked in God’s eyes, for they were without Christ, because God’s Son is the only One who can clothe us to the Father’s satisfaction (1 Cor. 1:30; 2 Cor.5:21; Phil.1:11; 3:9; Tit.3:5; Rev. 3:4-5; 4:4; 19:8). Only through Christ can the soul of man can find rest, peace and safety, and be acceptably clothed. Blessed are those who willingly receive His counsel, for all others shall perish in their sins.
Christ lets them know where they might have true riches, and how they might have them. They must receive from Christ the white raiment He purchased and provided for them; His own imputed righteousness for our justification, for only His righteousness is the garments of holiness and sanctification. If eyes are not opened to His Word and His Spirit, ears shall hear the verdict they do not want to hear, Hell! Let us examine ourselves (2 Cor.13:5) by the rule of His Word, and pray earnestly for the teaching of His Holy Spirit, to take away our pride, our prejudices, and our worldly lusts. Sinners should heartily welcome the rebukes from God’s Word and rod, as tokens of His love for their souls. If you are “lukewarm,” I strongly advise that you get on fire for the Lord.
Better Understanding Apostasy Chapter 3
Apostates are people who hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ, make a profession of being a Christian, start to church, but then completely abandon their profession of faith, totally rejecting the Christ that could save their soul from an eternal, agonizing Hell, desert Christian fellowship, and now consider Jesus to be counted with their enemies. Apostasy is a dreadful sin that can be committed only by someone who was never saved in the first place. Apostasy is turning against the Lord Jesus willfully and maliciously.
Apostasy is not the sin of an unbeliever who hears the Gospel but refuses to open his heart’s door to the Lord. I was in this category for years, I refused many invitations by the Holy Spirit. But, I finally accepted Jesus into my heart and life and things changed dramatically! Praise the Lord!
Apostasy is mentioned in 1 John 5:16, a sin leading to death. John was most likely referring to the people who had left the Christian fellowship and joined the antichrists. By rejecting Christ, the only Way of salvation, these people put themselves out of reach of prayer. This sin could be covetousness, idolatry, sexual sin, lust for power, wealth and/or fame, but these all go back to apostasy; and once a person turns away from Jesus to whom they were introduced, and then go hog wild for the world and what it can offer, it leaves them in an apostate situation that prayer won’t help. To know Jesus, then willfully reject Him, and refuse His love, is asking for God’s wrath and eternal Hell.
Apostasy is not the unpardonable sin that is mentioned Mark 3:22-30. The sin in that Passage attributes the miracles of Jesus to the devil. Jesus’ miracles were performed by the power of the Holy Spirit. Although apostasy is, in a way, like blasphemy against the Holy Spirit . . . because it is an eternal sin ending in spiritual death.
To reject Christ time and time again, after you have known Him, (or just refuse to know Him), is in my opinion, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit as well. The Holy Spirit is God! To NOT believe Him is calling Him a “liar” (1 John 5:10). A soul under Satan’s power, is led captive by him, and is blind to the things of God, and has NO power at the throne of grace (Rom.5:1-2). Satan blinds the eyes by unbelief (2 Cor.4:4), lest the light of the glorious Gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. Apostasy always ends in spiritual death (Hell).
Apostasy does N OT apply to TRUE believers! It applies to people who make a profession of faith in Christ, and then SEEM to be sincere in their profession. They are like the “stony ground” people in Mat.13:5-6, 20-21. The seeds (Word of God) that fell on rocky ground represent those who receive the message gladly when they hear it, but it does not sink in, does not stay with them. When trouble or persecution comes because of Christ, they give up. Stony ground people are those who may go off to college, and come in contact with persecution, drugs, liquor, disgraceful immorality, vulgar speech and blasphemy, anti-Christian arguments of atheistic teachers, etc. This person HAD full knowledge of the Truth at one time, but when being put in this lewd, worldly environment, he deliberately and willingly turned away, renouncing Jesus and every sacred doctrine of the Christian faith. The Bible clearly states that it is impossible to restore such a person to repentance. By purposely and willingly turning away from Christ, people cut themselves off from God’s forgiveness. While those who persevere in believing (hang in there), are TRUE children of God; those who continue to reject Christ are unbelievers and children of the devil (1 Jn.3:10), no matter how well they behave.
(KJV) . . . Peter is speaking of a person who has learned about Christ and how to be saved, then rejects the truth and returns to his sin. This person is worse off than before, because he has rejected the only way out of sin, the only Way of salvation. Like a person drowning in the ocean who refuses to grab the rope thrown to him, anyone who turns away from Christ casts aside his only hope of escape.
Christians should keep close to the Word of God, and watch against all who try to confuse them. Apostasy is much worse than ignorance. Anyone who brings an evil report upon the good way of God, and a false charge against the Way of Truth, shall be under severe condemnation. How dreadful that will be.
Apostasy is unconfessed sin.
1 John 1:8-10 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (KJV) . . . A TRUE child of God must see their sin and confess that sin. An unbeliever and an apostate will not do this. What about abortion? A TRUE Christian knows that abortion is murder and will have nothing to do with it. But, many who call themselves Christians have participated in murder and have not confessed their horrible sin. But, I’m not a murderer you say! My body is my own, I can do with it as I see fit. IF you have had an abortion, you are a murderer! A life starts with conception.
Psalm 139:13-16 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. 14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. 15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. (KJV) . . . We cannot see God, but He certainly can see us! This short Passage clearly tells us that God sees us in our mother’s womb, long before we are born. He is the only One who can give life, and He is the only One who can make all the delicate, inner parts of our body and knit us together in our mother’s womb. Only God’s workmanship could manage to accomplish such a marvelous creation as a human being, and watch as we are formed in utter seclusion, as we are woven together in the dark of the womb. He sees us before we are born. We are a person from the moment of conception in God’s eyes and yet people are so selfish and immoral that they take the life of a tiny little person by abortion. They commit murder!
If you are a TRUE Christian, you absolutely cannot go along with murder of innocent lives. I have heard of professing Christians who have had an unwanted pregnancy in the family, and “pray about it” and then be instrumental in the abortion of that little baby. “Pray about it”??? Do you think for one moment that it is God’s will that the little life be snuffed out??? Do you think for one moment that God will give His OK to murder that little baby??? Absolutely not!
This sin of murder has literally contaminated the whole world! But, this sin is so widely accepted that it no longer rests in God’s Hands, but in the hands of the people. Even evangelical Christians are compromising with the world, and changing their way of thinking. My friend, God has NOT changed His way of thinking! And He is not going to change either! Murder is sin! No matter what you may think. Abortion is murder!
God can forgive the sin of murder. He forgave David. He can forgive you. BUT, you must confess your sin. If you do not confess your sin, God will not forgive you.
If you do not confess your sin, you are a phony, powerless, carnal, professing Christian, an apostate who is bound for the gate of Hell. You cannot take on the Name of Christ (Christian) and not have the mind of Christ (1 Cor. 2:16 ; Phil 2:5). Our precious Lord Jesus would NEVER commit murder. IF you claim to be a Christian, you better not either! A TRUE Christian cannot commit murder deliberately, willfully and maliciously!
When so-called Christians refuse to face and confess the blatant sin of their ongoing association with those who desecrate God’s authority and slaughter His children; that is an apostate Christian! A TRUE Christian CANNOT compromise with the world, CANNOT be in agreement with it.
The church is full of sinners. The presence of sin in a church is not apostasy. ALL people are sinners (Rom.3:10,23). But sinners are divided into two groups: unsaved sinners (those without Christ, the devil’s children, 1 John 3:10) and saved sinners (those who have accepted Christ, God’s children, John 1:12-13). We will be sinners until we receive our new bodies that will never sin again (Phil.3:21). Apostasy is compromising with the world, accepting their way, not God’s way. Going along with the world because the majority of the people do, even if it’s wrong and against God: idolatry, abortion, homosexuals, lesbians, selfishness, covetousness, adultery, fornication, witchcraft, horoscopes, etc.
Walk with God = Heaven, with the world = Hell.
Apostasy is Deception Chapter 4
Most Americans still retain a minimal respect for the Bible, but only a tiny percentage think it is a Guide Book for life. Why?
Bible ownership has really declined.
People read less and less.
The Bible has been banned from public schools.
The Bible gets little attention in the homes.
The Bible is losing influence in the church and society.
Many churches have rejected fundamental theology.
Many do not believe that Jesus is God.
Many do not believe the Bible to be “God’s Word.”
Many do not believe in a literal Hell.
Many now believe everyone will go to Heaven.
Many believe in witchcraft, black magic, voodoo.
Many believe that all religions can save.
There are probably over 300 versions of the Bible today. One of the latest is The Message, which is supposedly the Bible in contemporary language. In my estimation, it is contemptible! But, according to very questionable endorsements, The Message is the easiest to read, is most accurate and keeps the real meaning of the entire Bible. Please consider: John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (KJV)
Now, The Message: The Word was first, the Word present to God, God present to the Word. The Word was God, in readiness for God from day one. (MSG) . . . What does this mean? There is absolutely NO comparison! There are NO verse numbers in The Message, so it is more difficult to check it out with proper Scripture.
What about the Beatitudes? Again, consider:
Mat.5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. (KJV)
The Message: You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are -- no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.
Mat.5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. (KJV)
The Message: You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.
Mat.5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. (KJV)
The Message: You’re blessed when you get your inside world -- your mind and heart -- put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.
To me, this is pointless rambling on and conceit to me. I cannot see how anyone can twist the Holy Words of God into such a mess as this. We are told NOT to mess with God’s Word! (Deut. 4:2; Rev. 22:18-19). I don’t know about you, but I take this very seriously! We are NOT to add to or subtract from any thing in the Bible. And to me, this means we are also NOT to twist things around to suit us.
As I see it, The Message is not the only blasphemous interpretation of God’s Holy Word, far from it. There are more, many more. (My opinion).
There is so much I could say about the new seeker service, mega-churches and the horrors they are doing to God’s people, but I will limit myself. The Satanic deception, the compromising with the world, the watering down of the Gospel, just names a few.
These church services must be non-threatening and must make the unsaved visitor feel comfortable or they simply will not come back. The so-called music in these services is not the wonderful, heart rending old hymns that once filled the buildings, but present day rock bands that this younger generation insist on. The sermon message must be positive. It mixes psychology with an uplifting Bible text. They are told how to deal with their guilt, how to improve their self-esteem, to better enhance their moods, how to be motivated for success, etc.
What does the Bible say?
Col. 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. (KJV) . . . We are NOT to let anyone lead us astray or enslave us with empty philosophy and worthless deceit of human wisdom that come from human thinking and from the evil powers of this world, and not from Christ. BEWARE! A warning!
Most churches today are willing to compromise with the world because they want dynamic growth. They must embrace present-day customs of today’s so-called civilized life: idolatry, abortion, homosexuals, lesbians, selfishness, a me, me outlook on life, covetousness, living together without the benefit of marriage, adultery, fornication, drugs, witchcraft, black magic, voodoo, horoscopes, etc., etc. This is what our world is coming to. God is no longer the center of our existence, it is self! Me, me . . . what can I do to better me? It is rare indeed that a person can go to a church and hear sermon on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. A fire and brimstone sermon is almost non-existent. Most preachers just will not even think of doing that! BUT . . . what subject did our precious Lord Jesus speak on more than any other subject? HELL! He does not want anyone to go there, so He kept speaking on its horrors. We as His disciples must imitate Him, so we too must speak on Hell. My friend, IF there is a Heaven, there is a Hell too! We must teach it all!
The vast majority of people today do not think they will ever go to Hell. They think everyone will go to Heaven. The Bible does NOT teach this falsehood, in any place! In fact, it teaches quite the opposite, that most people will have Hell as their eternal abode.
Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (KJV) . . . Jesus’ Words! . . . I teach the Bible and I believe every bit of it . . . cover to cover!
Some more weird, false beliefs people have:
- Everyone becomes an angel and goes to Heaven when they die. Angels are a specific creation of God, as is man. Man cannot become an angel, ever! (Neh. 9:6; Col. 1:16).
- Whoever obeys the Ten Commandments will go to Heaven. NO one can do this! There were a total of 613 laws and if you broke one, you broke them all (Deut. 27:26; Gal.3:10). Only Jesus could keep and fulfill the Law!
- Whoever goes to church will go to Heaven. What utter nonsense! Many children of the devil go to church (1 John 3:10).
- If your good outweighs your bad, you will go to Heaven. Absolutely absurd! NO good works, no matter how good, will gain you access to Heaven (Eph.2:8-9).
- If you believe in God, you will go to Heaven. This is stupidity! Even demons believe there is a God (James 2:19). Demons certainly are NOT going to Heaven.
- If you haven’t killed anyone or done anything really bad, you will go to Heaven. Are these people reading God’s mind? Sin is sin to God! ANY sin is absolutely horrible in God’s eyes. Unbelief is an abominable sin in God’s eyes (John 16:9), and the verdict of this sin is everlasting punishment in an agonizing Hell.
- Every one in a Christian family will go to Heaven. I cannot tell you how much I wish this were true, but it is NOT true! Just because my husband and I are born again Christians and are bound for Heaven, does not mean our family members will go to Heaven. It is their decision. Only they can choose Jesus and eternal life in Heaven with Him, OR they can reject Jesus and His work on the cross, and have Hell for their eternal home. This same, extremely important decision is before all peoples of the Earth. Only the particular person can decide for themselves. They alone are responsible for their decision, no one else.
- The idea of universalism is gaining popularity by leaps and bounds. Universalism is the belief that everyone who dies goes to Heaven. It is false teachers inspired by Satan that makes Universalism so popular. More and more churches are teaching this horrific man made doctrine (Mat.15:9). It is leading millions down that broad path right into Hell.
You can be certain that Almighty God shall unleash His holy and righteous wrath in the last days. TRUE Christians know this, so we must consider the following Passage.
Jude 1:20-21 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, 21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. (KJV) . . . We are to KEEP ourselves in the love of God! God wants to pour out His blessed love upon us day by day, BUT if we do not keep ourselves in His love, we remove ourselves outside the realm of His love. We can walk in the sunlight or in dark shadows. Our choice! The sun has not changed, it’s your relationship that has changed. God never moves . . . we move. If you are a TRUE Christian, you have nothing to fear if you keep in the love of God and strive for a closer relationship with the Lord Jesus. Take Jude’s advice: build up your faith, keep in the love of God and look for the Lord Jesus to come bringing with Him fulfillment of His Promise to us, eternal life. Our hope rests in Jesus!
Below are some quotes of famous men. Something went wrong somewhere between then and now.
- George Washington: “It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible.”
- Abraham Lincoln: “I believe the Bible is the best gift God has ever given to man. All the good from the Savior of the world is communicated to us through this book.”
- Horace Greeley: “It is impossible to mentally or socially enslave a Bible-reading people. The principles of the Bible are the groundwork of human freedom.”
- Dwight D. Eisenhower: “To read the Bible is to take a trip to a fair land where the spirit is strengthened and faith renewed.”
Apostasy Rampant in Last Days Chapter 5
1 Tim. 4:1-2 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; (KJV) . . . False teachers are hypocritical liars who encourage people to follow lying spirits and follow the teachings of demons. Satan deceives people by offering a sly, shady imitation of the real thing. We are told that some people will abandon the faith in later times; they will chase after deceitful liars, who no longer have a conscience. Beware!
Mat.24:11-13 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. (KJV) . . . The Old Testament often tells of false prophets (2 Kings 3:13; Isa.44:25; Jer.23:16; Eze. 13:2-3; Mic.3:5; Zech. 13:2). They claimed to receive messages from God, but they preached a “health and wealth” message. They said what the people wanted to hear, even when the nation was not following God. There were false prophets in Jesus’ day, and we have them today. They are the popular leaders who tell people what they want to hear: “God wants you to be rich,” “Do whatever you want,” “There is no such thing as sin or Hell.” Jesus said false teachers would come. He warned His disciples, and He warns us; do NOT listen to their dangerous words. False teaching brings loose morals, then loss of true love for God and others. Sin freezes your love for God and others and turns your focus on yourself. You can never truly love if you think only of yourself.
2 Thes. 2:3-4 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. (KJV) . . . We must be so careful about what we allow into our minds and hearts. There are so many satanic deceivers out there. Do not fall for their shady tricks.
Antichrists (those against Christ) have lived in every generation and will continue to work their evil until the end. Just before Christ’s Second Coming, “the man of sin, who is doomed to destruction,” will make his appearance. Some people think that he is already alive somewhere in the world today. He will be a completely evil man, Satan’s tool, equipped with Satan’s power (2 Thes. 2:9). This lawless man will be the Antichrist. He is mentioned not that we might precisely identify him, but that we might be ready for anything that threatens our faith. If our faith is strong, we need not fear what lies ahead, because we know that this horrific man has already been defeated by God, no matter how powerful he becomes or how terrible our situation seems. God is in control, now and always, and He certainly will be victorious over the Antichrist. We simply must be prepared for Christ’s return and spread the Gospel so more people will also be prepared.
2 Thes. 2:10-12 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. (KJV) . . . We see a lot of people pussy-footing around today. They refuse to take a stand for God. They won’t listen to the Gospel. Their ears are closed to it. God graciously gives them His Word, but they don’t want it. After they have heard (or read) the Word of God but have refused to accept it, God will send them “strong delusion.” WHY? Because they would not receive the Truth. Then they are wide open to believe the lie. They will perish because they did not welcome and love the Truth, the Truth that could save them. All who have not believed the Truth, but have taken pleasure in sin, shall be condemned.
People who have stopped going to churches where they heard the Truth, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, are wide open to the cults and the “isms” of our day. That is why many cultists go around on Sunday morning, knocking at doors. They know that many people will not be in church on Sunday morning, because they are not interested in the Word of God. The cults know that they can get those people, because if they will reject the truth, they are wide open for any falsehood that comes along. I have known some intelligent people who have heard the Gospel, rejected it, and then turned to a crazy cult. They will believe the most senseless doctrine that is so far off from God’s Word it’s not funny. Why? Because when people reject the truth, they will believe a lie.
God separates the sheep from the goats, using the best way in the world to do it. If people will not receive the love of His Truth, then God sends them a “strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.” What is the “lie”? The lie of Antichrist (and all false teachers) is that Jesus Christ is not the Lord, the Saviour, the Messiah. He is not really who He says He is. Antichrist will tell people that they are not very smart to become religious nuts who believes in Jesus. He will have a good explanation when the saints are removed from the Earth at the Rapture. People will believe him. God is absolutely going to judge ALL those who have rejected the Truth. If you can read the Word of God, and continue to reject Jesus Christ, then you are wide open for anything that comes along to betray and deceive you. You will never be able to go into the Presence of the Almighty Judge and say: “I never heard the Gospel.” If you turn your back on the Lord Jesus Christ, then you are wide open for delusion and you shall be open the holy wrath of God on Judgment Day.
2 Tim. 4:1-4 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. (KJV) . . . We are talking about apostasy. It becomes more widespread and rampant every day. My friend, apostasy is a most dreadful spiritual disease! Apostasy is terminal. This Passage refers to this day in which we live! People are turning away from the Truth, they want no part of the plain, simple Gospel of Christ, they want falsehoods, taking pleasure in them. They do NOT want the Truth. Isaiah had the same problem in his day. Isa.30:10-11 Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits: 11 Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us. (KJV) . . . Israel did not want to hear the Truth, just like people today. Cause . . . to cease means they didn’t want to hear any more of God’s Name. God and His holiness is what troubles sinners most.
2 Tim.4:2 states: “Be prepared in season and out of season” meaning to always be ready to serve God in any situation, whether it is convenient for you or not. Be sensitive to the opportunities God gives you. We are to correct, rebuke and encourage. It is difficult to accept correction, to be told we have to change. But no matter how much the truth hurts, we must be willing to listen, so we can more fully obey God.
Just as fountains and rivers continue to flow, even though no one drinks from them; so we must do our part in speaking the Gospel of Christ, even though no one pays any attention to us.
After their own lusts . . . people do not consider the will of God, they hate having their passions and lusts interrupted by true teachers of the Word. Heap to themselves . . . an assortment of false teachers. Variety delights itching ears. Anyone who hates the Truth, will NOT sit and listen to a sound teacher, or read the Truth. They look for teachers and pastors who bring only what they want to hear, like the huge mega-churches of today. Their depraved tastes just seem to cry out to be deceived; and they shall be deceived. They hunger to hear teachers who will give them pleasure (Acts 17:19-21), not something that will offend them, like the Truth attacking their ears.
Hebrews 3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. (KJV) . . . Our hearts turn away from the living God when we stubbornly refuse to believe Him. If we persist and remain in our unbelief, God will eventually leave us alone in our sin. God CAN give us new hearts, new desires, and new spirits (Eze.36:26-27), IF we let Him! To keep from having a hard and unbelieving heart, stay in fellowship with other believers, talk daily about your mutual faith, be aware of the deceitfulness of sin. Sin does attract but it also can destroy you. Encourage each other with godly love and concern. Godly love = care, concern and compassion. To harden our hearts means to willingly, stubbornly and rebelliously set ourselves against God so that we are no longer able to turn to Him for forgiveness.
2 Peter 3:17-18 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. 18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. (KJV) . . . We are to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ, we must get to know Him better and better with each passing day. We are to get closer and closer to Him. We are to have a close, personal relationship with Him. We are to KNOW Him! We are to walk with Him in His light, and on His path. We are to let Him guide us in everything we think, say or do. This is very important if we want to know someone is teaching falsely. No matter where we are in our spiritual journey, no matter how mature we are (or think we are) in our faith, the sinful world always will challenge our faith. Satan is strong! We ALL still have much room for growth. If every day we find some way to draw closer to Christ, we will be prepared to stand for Truth in any and all circumstances.
2 Timothy 3:1-7 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. (KJV) . . . The last days is the period from Christ’s resurrection to His Second Coming. We are living in the last days. Perilous = reducing the strength; difficult, dangerous, furious, fierce. Perilous times = because of outward persecution, but more so because of corruptions within. People love to satisfy their own lusts, more than to please God and do their duty. When everyone is eager to get all he can, and determined to keep all that he has, this makes men dangerous. When men do not fear God, they will not respect man.
- 1. Lovers of their own selves = self-lovers. This is very much in evidence in our culture today.
- 2. Covetous = money-loving (Col. 3:5; 1 Tim. 6:10). This follows self-love, because lovers of self become lovers of money.
- 3. Boasters = empty boasters, boasting of having what they don’t have. A windbag.
- 4. Proud = arrogant, showing off.
- 5. Blasphemers = railers, busy bodies, evil-speakers, gossips, back biters.
- 6. Disobedient to parents = especially the manners of the young. Thousands of kids and teenagers completely rebel against their parents!
- 7. Unthankful = people receive kindnesses from others but never even thank them. And they never consider what God does for them. Never thank Him.
- 8. Unholy = profane. Completely against God in their conversation and in their manner of life.
- 9. Without natural affection = having abnormal relationships. Homosexuality is being accepted as normal conduct in today’s world even though the Bible clearly states it is wrong. Humanity sinks to its lowest level when it accepts homosexuality. Also, anyone who can have an abortion, is in my mind, without natural affection. HOW could any mother or father allow her/his child to be murdered?
- 10. Trucebreakers = false accusers, slanderers, people who do not keep their word (1 Tim. 3:11; Titus 2:3). They are impossible to get along with.
- 11. False accusers = liars, bearing false witness, certainly abound today!
- 12. Incontinent = no self-control. This is certainly a large part of our contemporary society.
- 13. “Fierce” means savage. City streets have become asphalt jungles, full of wild beasts.
- 14. Despisers of those that are good = haters of anyone who is or does good.
- 15. Traitors = are betrayers. There are some people you simply cannot trust.
- 16. Heady = is reckless, inconsiderate.
- 17. Highminded = means blinded or drunk by pride, it is people who think they are better than you.
- 18. Lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God. This characterizes mankind in our day. Never has there been a time when so much money has been spent in order to provide pleasure. Look at the athletic and entertainment events today, attracting millions of people. That’s what happened when Rome went down.
- 19. Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof. They go through the rituals of religion but lack life and reality. From such turn away means that TRUE believers are to avoid them. Let me ask you a question: If you are in a dead, cold, liberal church, and you are a true believer; what are you doing there . . . when the Word of God tells you to avoid those things? There are still a few wonderful pastors who are faithfully preaching the Word of God. Find one! You should be supporting with these godly men?
- 20. Silly women I think means, people of both men and women. Some people have attended Bible meetings for years, but they don’t know any more about the Word of God now than they did when they started. They have never matured. Their lives are not changed. If you are in that category today, get down on your knees and ask God to forgive you!
- 21. Ever learning = for mere curiosity, people seek some new point or doctrine or teacher, but they don’t know any more than they did before.
- 22. Knowledge of the truth = perfect knowledge comes only from God and His Word. It is the only safeguard against new gimmicks by false teachers that are supposed to make a better you.
The Passage in 2 Timothy 3:1-7 is in my opinion what is happening in today’s modern world. Read it again (page 34). Am I wrong? No, I’m not wrong! Since I teach the Bible, and since I believe the Bible, I am telling you that the end of this world as we know it is very near. Our Lord Jesus COULD come at any moment and take TRUE believers home to be with Him (1 Thes.4:13-18). We are warned over and over again by Jesus to “watch” and be ready! (Mat.24;42-43; 25:13; Mark 13:33-37; Luke 12:38; 21:36; Rev.3:3). Stay close to Jesus!
Closing Comments on Apostasy
I am certain that what I have written will ruffle someone’s feathers, but I must write what God places on my heart. Any time that objection is raised to what the majority of people think is right, someone will get angry or offended. As I have stated, I teach the Bible. I have now for over 40 years. I did not choose my gift when I became a child of God (John 1:12-13). The Holy Spirit gave me my gift! If it would have been left up to me, I would have chosen something much less taxing, much easier. But, I did not have a choice. And any time God chooses a person for a job, He equips that person for the job. I absolutely could not do this job He has given me without His Spirit helping me. So, if I have offended you, take it up with the Lord.
I am against anything that God is against. I heard a phrase used by the news media last night . . . anti-gay bigot. I am against homosexuals and lesbians because God is against them. They are an abomination to Him, so they must be an abomination to me too (Gen.19:1-29; Lev.18:22; 20:13; Rom.1:24-32; 1 Cor.6:9-11; 1 Tim.1:8-11; Jude 1:7). So I guess I am an anti-gay bigot. I am also an anti-abortion bigot, for the same reason. My friend, if God is against it, I am against it. I absolutely will not compromise with the world. I stand with God, NOT the world.
In today’s time, the majority of churches are against any and all negative teaching. A large part of the New Testament teaches negatively, revealing to us the satanic origin of sin, the judgment of God which shall expose His Holy, righteous and just wrath, and the false doctrines which Peter calls damnable heresies (2 Pet.2:1). It also warns us about how we should live, telling us NOT to walk after the flesh but after the Spirit (Mat.5:30; 26:41; Mark 14:38; Rom.7:5,18; 8:1,8,13, 1 Cor.15:50; Gal.5:17; 6:8; 1 John 2:16).
And what about Hell? Pastors today rarely ever mention Hell and its eternal agony. But the New Testament is FULL of Passages about Hell! See: Mat.5:22,29; 10:28; 11:23; 16:18; 18:19; 23:15; 23:33; Mark 9:43,45,47; Luke 10:15; 12:5; 16:23; Acts 2:27,31; Jam.3:6; Rev. 1:18; 6:8; 20:13-14. Am I wrong to tell people that Hell really does exist? Am I wrong when I warn people about Hell? I don’t think so. Jesus did it! And He expects me and every other TRUE child of God to do the same.
What about idolatry? ANYTHING can be an idol to you! An idol is anything or anyone that you place before God. In today’s world, possessions, riches, fame, power, and pleasure are right at the top of idolatry. BEWARE! It can quickly lead to apostasy.
Mark 13:22-23 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. 23 But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things. (KJV) . . . Just in very recent times, we have seen Jesus’ prediction come true. The Jonestown Massacre in Guyana where 780 people were killed, and in Waco, Texas where David Koresh and his followers were finally burned to death in the compound, are just two of many.
We, as TRUE believers, TRUE children of God, must earnestly contend for the faith (Jude 1:3). We are to have absolutely NO fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them (Eph.5:11). Reprove = disprove, admonish, warn, caution, tell of their fault, rebuke, reprimand, scold. When we see someone going down the wrong road in life, we must REPROVE them. This is my objective (aim, purpose) in writing these booklets, hoping to help someone who is going astray.
Is it possible for Christians to be deceived? Yes! Especially baby Christians. False teachers will be so convincing with their arguments, it will be difficult in the end times not to fall away from Christ. IF a person is TRULY saved, they may stray, they may backslide, but they WILL come back to God. No one who is TRULY saved can ever lose their salvation (John 1:12-13; 10:27-29).
If we are prepared, we can remain faithful to Christ. But if we are not prepared, if we are not watching, we could turn away. We must be careful. Apostasy can creep into your life in a very subtle and crafty way. Once you willingly and deliberately turn away from God after you have had the opportunity to hear the Gospel of Christ, you won’t be able to undo the damage.
There are five roads on which apostasy travels:
1. Rejection of God’s authority
2. Rejection of God’s grace.
3. Rejection of God’s standards.
4. Rejection of God’s TRUE church and the Truth.
5. Rejection of the Gospel doctrines: Jesus’ incarnation, His resurrection, His being God and Man.
False teachers (apostates, hypocrites) use many different methods and tactics. They are the devil’s soldiers. BEWARE!!! They creep in unawares! They will infiltrate your mind before you know it. These people do not wear signs saying they are false teachers and are there to deceive you. They come into your life presenting themselves to be holy, righteous and godly people, BUT they are powered by Satan, NOT the Holy Spirit.
2 Cor. 11:14-15 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. (KJV) . . . You must TRY, check out, everyone by the Word of God, including me! Check me out with God’s Holy Word!
1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. (KJV) . . . BEWARE!
By gradual deception (little by little) these false teachers worm their way into your life. They bring nothing but damnable heresies! They are like wolves in sheep’s clothing. They catch millions off guard! A prevailing vice of these wolves is greed. They are out for money, popularity, glory. They have an appetite for riches, public attention, recognition and power. They will go to great lengths to get your money.
Apostate teachers twist the Truth of the Bible like I twist bread dough! They want only to promote their own plans and manipulate you. They use the newer interpretations of the Bible. Some of these versions are actually blasphemous in my mind, because I cannot see how anyone can alter God’s Holy Word by adding, subtracting, omitting or twisting it.
And these false ones do not bring the full Truth. They bring only what people want to hear. They have a ‘gift of gab’ that could sell ice to Eskimos. BEWARE!
Responding to Apostates
Romans 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. (KJV) . . . Mark (take heed) and avoid false teachers and doctrines.
2 Thes. 3:6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. (KJV)
Withdraw yourselves from those who walk disorderly.
1 Tim. 6:4-5 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, 5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. From such withdraw thyself. (KJV)
Titus 3:10-11 A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; 11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself. (KJV) . . . Reject heretics (apostates).
2 John 1:9-11 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. (KJV) . . . Do NOT receive him into your house. STOP all fellowship with apostate teachers. Deceivers and their deceits are dangerous ground for believers. BEWARE! Satan does not stop working.
What is salvation?? Salvation is being rescued from the penalty of sin and from God’s horrible wrath. YES! God has two sides. He is a loving God, without a doubt! But He is also a God of wrath. I cannot teach God’s love and an eternity in Heaven without teaching God’s wrath (holy anger) and the “everlasting destruction” of Hell. If I were to do this, I would be a false teacher! I must be very careful what I teach, for I will be held accountable by Almighty God!
James 3:1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. [KJV] This verse terrifies me! So . . . just why do I teach God’s Word? One very good reason; that being, when I became a Christian, God gave me the ‘gift’ of teaching, and He told me to go and teach. What I fear more than this verse is refusing to obey God! That is why I teach the Bible!
