How
can I Be Saved?
We must be "born
again." This simply describes what takes
place when a person accepts Jesus Christ as his or her personal
Saviour. Basically, one becomes spiritually ‘reborn’
at that point, into the family of God. escaping spiritual
death and receiving eternal life.
John 3:3 Jesus answered
and said unto him, Verily,
verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot
see the kingdom of God. [KJV]
1 Corinthians 12:13 For
by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we
be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have
been all made to drink into one Spirit. [KJV] All believers are baptized by the Holy Spirit
into one body of believers, the church. We don’t lose our individual
identities, but we have an major oneness in Christ. When a
person becomes a Christian, the Holy Spirit takes up residence,
the MOMENT he or she is born into God’s family. The Holy Spirit
completely fills our innermost beings. As members of God’s
family, we may have different interests and gifts, but we have
a common goal.
What
is God’s Plan of Salvation?
We
must admit we are sinners.
Every
person is guilty of sin and has fallen short of God’s standard. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned,
and come short of the glory of God; [KJV]
We ALL have a basic instinct to follow our own
way instead of God’s way. Isaiah 53:6 All
we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to
his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of
us all. [KJV]
Breaking one of God’s laws makes us as guilty
as someone who has broken all of God’s laws. James
2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet
offend in one point, he is guilty of all. [KJV] The Law is like a chain, if one link is broken, the
whole chain is broken.
NO one can claim innocence before God. Romans
3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no,
not one: [KJV]
We have NO rightreousness of our own. It must
come from Jesus. Isaiah 64:6 But
we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses
are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our
iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. [KJV] 1 Cor. 1:30 But of him
are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom,
and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: [KJV] Because of God's love, He made it possible for us to
be in Christ Jesus.
Because of God's love, He made Christ to be wisdom and righteousness,
redeeming us and making us acceptable to Him. We can be pure
and holy, and set apart for God ONLY through Jesus! He sacrificed
Himself to purchase our freedom.
We must understand the
penalty for our sins
The wages of
sin is death. Romans 6:23 For
the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal
life through Jesus Christ our Lord. [KJV]
We must confess and
repent of our sins.
God promises
to forgive our sins when we admit we are wrong and confess
our sins. 1 John 1:8-9 If
we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the
truth is not in us. [9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful
and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from
all unrighteousness. [KJV]
We must turn
from our sin and turn to God. Acts 20:21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the
Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord
Jesus Christ. [KJV]
We must believe that
Christ is the only way of salvation.
Christ Jesus
alone leads you to God. John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I
am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto
the Father, but by me. [KJV]
Salvation can
be found through NO ONE other than Christ Jesus. Acts
4:12 Neither is there salvation in
any other: for there is none other name under heaven given
among men, whereby we must be saved. [KJV]
Christ’s death
demonstrates God’s unconditional love. Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward
us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for
us. [KJV]
Christ, who never
sinned, took the punishment for our sins on the cross of
Calvary to make us right and bring us to God. 1
Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once
suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might
bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened
by the Spirit: [KJV]
Belief in Jesus’
death and resurrection is absolutely essential to salvation. Romans 10:8-9 But what saith
it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy
heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; [9]
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him
from the dead, thou shalt be saved. [KJV]
We
must accept and receive Christ into our lives.
We must be "born again." John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto
him, Verily,
verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he
cannot see the kingdom of God. [KJV]
We are promised
salvation by believing in Christ Jesus, God’s Son. John
3:16 For God
so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have
everlasting life. [KJV]
Christ Jesus
is our Gate to salvation. John 10:9 I
am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved,
and shall go in and out, and find pasture. [KJV]
Jesus patiently
waits for us to invite Him into our lives. Rev.
3:20 Behold,
I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice,
and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with
him, and he with me. [KJV]
We can receive
salvation only through faith in Christ, not through our
good works. We are not responsible for even 1% of our salvation.
It is a GIFT! Ephes. 2:8-9 For
by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves:
it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should
boast. [KJV]
The salvation
God extends washes away our sins and brings true joy. Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness
which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved
us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the
Holy Ghost; [KJV]
We
have the assurance of our salvation.
We become a child
of God by receiving His free gift of salvation. John
1:12-13 But as many as received him,
to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to
them that believe on his name: [13] Which were born, not
of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will
of man, but of God. [KJV]
We are given
a "new" life in Christ Jesus. Galatians
2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless
I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life
which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the
Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. [KJV]
We no longer
have to fear condemnation. Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them
which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh,
but after the Spirit. [KJV]
God has reserved the priceless gift of eternal life for us, and a "mansion"
in Heaven. 1 Peter 1:3-4 Blessed
be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according
to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively
hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
[4] To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and
that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, [KJV] John 14:2-3 In
my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so,
I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
[3] And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come
again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there
ye may be also. [KJV]
Our new life
comes only from the living God, not from mortal man. 1
Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of
corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God,
which liveth and abideth for ever. [KJV]
The Lord personally
guards our salvation. John 10:27-28 My
sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
[28] And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never
perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. [KJV]
Our assurance
is based upon faith, not feeling. 1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe
on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye
have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of
the Son of God. [KJV]
God has placed
the Holy Spirit in our hearts as proof that we belong to
Him. 2 Cor. 1:22 Who hath
also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our
hearts. [KJV]
We have all the
privileges and rights that come from being God’s children. Galatians 4:6-7 And because
ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into
your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. [7] Wherefore thou art
no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir
of God through Christ. [KJV]
