What
Is God Really Like?
This
is a very difficult question. There is
truly not enough words in the English
(or any other) language to convey what
our Holy, awesome God is like.
God
is infinite. No one
can totally know what infinite is.
It means that God knows NO limits.
He has NO boundries and He has NO
end. Any time words such as unlimited,
boundless, endless, and infinite are
used; they can be applied only to
God, for man is none of these. These
words do not describe space, time,
matter, motion or energy; and cannot
be applied to anything that can be
measured. IF there were a certain
place where God stopped, He would
not be perfect and His understanding
would not be perfect. Psalm
147:5 Great is our Lord,
and of great power: his understanding
is infinite. [KJV] IF God knew
all things, except a measley 1%, He
would not be perfect. He knows ALL
things; past, present and future!
IF God had all power, except a tiny,
little bit; He would not be perfect!
IF God were 99.9% love, God would
not be God! To be infinite, God MUST
have NO boundries, NO limits, NO stopping
point, NO place beyond which He cannot
go. God is infinite: ALL perfect,
ALL knowing, ALL wise, ALL powerful,
ALL loving, ALL everything!
God
is immense. I will
let the Lord explain this one! Isaiah 40:15 Behold,
the nations are as a drop of a bucket,
and are counted as the small dust
of the balance: behold, he taketh
up the isles as a very little thing.
[KJV] Isaiah 40:22 It is he that sitteth upon the
circle of the earth, and the inhabitants
thereof are as grasshoppers; that
stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain,
and spreadeth them out as a tent to
dwell in: [KJV] Isaiah
40:25-26 To whom then
will ye liken me, or shall I be equal?
saith the Holy One. [26] Lift up your
eyes on high, and behold who hath
created these things, that bringeth
out their host by number: he calleth
them all by names by the greatness
of his might, for that he is strong
in power; not one faileth. [KJV] Psalm 104:1-3 Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord
my God, thou art very great; thou
art clothed with honour and majesty.
[2] Who coverest thyself with light
as with a garment: who stretchest
out the heavens like a curtain: [3]
Who layeth the beams of his chambers
in the waters: who maketh the clouds
his chariot: who walketh upon the
wings of the wind: [KJV] God
is indeed great! He is HUGE!
God
is good. "Good"
means kindhearted, gracious, loving,
reliable, etc. Psalm 119:68 Thou art good, and doest
good; teach me thy statutes.
[KJV] Psalm 34:8 O taste and see that the Lord
is good: blessed is the man that trusteth
in him. [KJV] Psalm 139:17 How precious also are thy thoughts
unto me, O God! how great is the sum
of them! [KJV] Isaiah
63:7 I will mention the
lovingkindnesses of the Lord, and
the praises of the Lord, according
to all that the Lord hath bestowed
on us, and the great goodness toward
the house of Israel, which he hath
bestowed on them according to his
mercies, and according to the multitude
of his lovingkindnesses. [KJV]
God
is just. God is perfectly
and absolutely just in every way.
"Just" means honest and
upright with 100% moral values. Psalm
92:15 To shew that the
Lord is upright: he is my rock, and
there is no unrighteousness in him.
[KJV] Psalm 97:2 Clouds
and darkness are round about him:
righteousness and judgment are the
habitation of his throne. [KJV]
God
is merciful. Psalm
103:8 The Lord is merciful
and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous
in mercy. [KJV] Goodness is the
source of God's mercy. God's mercy
never began, nor will it ever end!
God is eternally merciful. But BEWARE!
God's mercy will never cancel His
judgment on an unbeliever (someone
not born
again). When
God;s justice confronts those without
Christ on the day of judgment, the
sentence shall be "Hell"
(John 3:16,36; 8:24). It simply must
be that way, because God is who He
says He is, and will never change.
If God were to allow those who reject
Jesus, into Heaven, He would be a
"liar" and God certainly
is NOT a liar! See our articles on Hell.
God
is full of grace.
Grace is God's unmerited favor He
bestows upon us. Romans 3:24 Being justified freely by his
grace through the redemption that
is in Christ Jesus: [KJV] Ephes.
2:7-9 That in the ages
to come he might shew the exceeding
riches of his grace in his kindness
toward us through Christ Jesus. [8]
For by grace are ye saved through
faith; and that not of yourselves:
it is the gift of God: [9] Not of
works, lest any man should boast.
[KJV] Grace is God's good pleasure,
and grace is what God is like. God
is a God of total kindness, consideration,
good will, and open-handedness to
His TRUE children (John 1:12-13; 3:3).Yet
all these great characteristics work
in perfect harmony with God's justice
and His judgment. There will most
certainly be judgment, and there certainly
is a Hell! And there are those whom
God MUST reject because of their continual
impenitence. These are they that simply
are not sorry for their sins and evils
that they have done. But, the grace
of God will allow Him to do only what
is absolutely right. And when a sinner
does repent, the grace of God forgives,
for grace was released at the cross
when Christ died for our sins. Many
Christians have lost the proper concept
of what God is like. We need to study
God's Word and learn what God is really
like!
God
is omnipresent. The
Lord can say this much better than
I can. 1 Kings 8:27 But will God indeed dwell on the
earth? behold, the heaven and heaven
of heavens cannot contain thee; how
much less this house that I have builded?
[KJV] Jeremiah 23:23-24 Am I a God at hand, saith the
Lord, and not a God afar off? [24]
Can any hide himself in secret places
that I shall not see him? saith the
Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth?
saith the Lord. [KJV] Acts
17:27-28 That they should
seek the Lord, if haply they might
feel after him, and find him, though
he be not far from every one of us:
[28] For in him we live, and move,
and have our being; as certain also
of your own poets have said, For we
are also his offspring. [KJV] Psalm 139:2 Thou
knowest my downsitting and mine uprising,
thou understandest my thought afar
off. [KJV] Psalm 139:7-10 Whither shall I go from
thy spirit? or whither shall I flee
from thy presence? [8] If I ascend
up into heaven, thou art there: if
I make my bed in hell, behold, thou
art there. [9] If I take the wings
of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost
parts of the sea; [10] Even there
shall thy hand lead me, and thy right
hand shall hold me. [KJV] Omnipresent
means God is all-present. God is close
to, near to, here, there, everywhere!
He is next to you, where ever you
might be, because He is everywhere!
There is NO place in the entire Universe
where God is not present!
God
is immanent. Immanent
means God works within, for God penetrates
everything, including our very existence;
our heart and mind and soul. And as
mentioned above, God is omnipresent,
so He penetrates everything, everywhere!
God is absolutely awesome and amazing.
God
is Holy. We cannot
understand holiness. We are fallen
creatures spiritually, morally, mentally
and physically. We ALL inherit sin
from Adam and Eve. We are born with
a sinful nature, into a polluted world
(Isa.6:5; 48:8; Psalm 51:5; 58:3).
We learn impurity from our bassinets.
We nurse it with our mother's milk.
We breathe in the air we inhale. Education
simply makes matters worse and our
lifestyles prove it. Evil impurities
are everywhere! Even the most devoutm
devoted and saintly person you know
is but a soiled sinner in God's eyes.
Holiness is absolute purity, such
as cannot be put into words. It is
morality unequaled. It is righteousness
and justice that cannot be surpassed.
It means honesty, absolute uprightness
in character, and honor and truth.
God is ALL these things and more in
His holiness. His holiness is uncreated
and eternal! Holy is aweful (full
of awe). Our God certainly is an Awful
One! God is awesome and we should
hold Him in a place of fear, wonder,
amazement, respect and reverence;
for He and He alone is Holy! 1
Peter 1:16 Because it
is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
[KJV] We can be holy in God's eyes,
only when we believe Him and accept
His Son as our personal Saviour and
Lord (1 John 5:10-12).
God
is perfect. Psalm
50:2 Out of Zion, the
perfection of beauty, God hath shined.
[KJV] Perfection is the highest degree
of excellence. God lacks NOTHING!
Perfection means full and complete.
Nothing can be added (or taken away)
to make God more perfect. God is absolutely
perfect and complete in His character
and nature in every possible way!
God is an infinite perfection of fullness.
We cannot compare God to anything
or anyone! Isaiah 40:25 To whom then will ye liken me, or
shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
[KJV] God has an unlimited
abundance of power
and wisdom and knowledge and holiness
and and justice and love and goodness
and kindness and mercy and grace! God
is PERFECT!
God is a unique God in His
character and the way He works in the
Universe. There is NONE other who can
come close to Him. He can do NO wrong,
He can speak NO lies, He thinks NO evil,
He does NO wickedness. God can do only
what is just and right 100% of the time.
Anything He says is TRUTH! Study the Bible
to learn more about this Almighty and
Awesome One.
