God’s
Holy Wrath
God's
WRATH = God's holy
and righteous anger against ALL wickedness. It is God's burning
anger, His sore displeasure, His fierce fury, fierce anger,
heated anger, hot displeasure, rage. It is for Him to be incensed.
It is His righteous indignation. WRATH implies punishment
because of His anger, fury, vengeance and wrath. Since God
is so Holy and pure and righteous and just, He cannot tolerate
ANY sin of any kind. He does get extremely angry, and He must
(and shall) punish ALL sin. He states He will punish the wicked,
and He will! God must punish sin, or He would be a "liar"
and God cannot lie.
Psalm
2:12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry,
and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but
a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. (KJV)
"Kiss
the Son" means to submit to Him (Jesus). Anyone who
rejects Jesus will bring the wrath of Almighty God down on
themselves. They shall eventually be cast into the Lake of Fire (Rev.20:15), because of God’s anger.
On
the other hand, great joy awaits all who "kiss the
Son" for they shall find eternal protection in Him!
Psalm
21:9 Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of
thine anger: the Lord shall swallow them up in his wrath,
and the fire shall devour them. (KJV)
Fire
is a symbol of God’s judgment. Many cannot understand how
Hell can be absolute darkness (Mt.8:12; Mt.22:13; Mt.25:30) and
yet fire (Isa.33:14; Mt.5:22; Mt.7:19; Mt.13:40,42,50; Mt.18:8-9;
Mt.25:41). Perhaps the following verses may help.
2
Thes. 1:8-9 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that
know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus
Christ: [9] Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction
from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
(KJV) Everlasting
destruction is the lake of fire . . . the place of eternal
separation from God.
Rev.
20:14-15 And death and hell were cast into the lake of
fire. This is the second death. [15] And whosoever was not
found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of
fire. (KJV) Born once - die twice;
born twice - die once. If you are "born
again"
you will never experience the "Lake of Fire."
All
those who are separated from God in eternity have NO
hope whatsoever for salvation. In the Bible, light refers
to God and good, and darkness refers to the devil, the world
system and all evil. So, being separated from God and all
good means darkness. Hell will be black as the blackest night
because God will not be there. Heaven will be glorious light
because God and the Lamb are there (Rev.21:23).
Verses
on darkness and light: Mt.4:16; Mt.8:12; John 1:5; Jn.3:19; Jn.8:12; Jn.12:35,46; Acts 26:18;
Rom.13:12; 2 Cor.4:6; 2 Cor.6:14; Eph.5:11-12; Col. 1:13; 1 Thes.5:5;
1 Pet.2:9; 1 John 1:5-6.
Psalm
76:7 Thou, even thou, art to be feared: and who
may stand in thy sight when once thou art angry? (KJV)
No
one could possibly stand before Almighty God when His fury
explodes. He should be greatly feared, but by the majority
of the world, He is not. His wrath shall
come!
Psalm
90:7 For we are consumed by thine anger, and by
thy wrath are we troubled. (KJV) God’s
holy and righteous wrath will one day overwhelm unbelievers.
Isaiah
13:9 Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, cruel
both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate:
and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it. (KJV)
The
Day of the Lord is coming . . . a terrible day of His fury
and fierce anger. The land will be destroyed and all the sinners
with it. This verse applied partially to Babylon, but will
apply more so to the Tribulation Period. ALL sinners (unbelievers)
shall be sent to the Lake of Fire.
Isaiah
13:13 Therefore I will shake the heavens, and
the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the
Lord of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger. (KJV) This is speaking of the Great Tribulation Period. Isaiah chapters
24-27 are sometimes called "Isaiah’s Apocalypse."
Isaiah speaks of God’s wrath and judgment on the entire world
for its sin. Isaiah’s prophecies were first aimed to Judah,
the southern kingdom; then to Israel, the northern kingdom;
then to the surrounding nations; and finally to the whole
world. These chapters describe the last days when God will
judge the whole world. At that time God will finally and permanently
remove evil. Also see: Isaiah 24:19; Isa.34:4; Habakkuk 3:6, 10;
Haggai 2:6-7; Rev. 20:11; Rev.21:1).
2
Peter 3:6-7 Whereby the world that then was, being
overflowed with water, perished: [7] But the heavens and the
earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition
of ungodly men. (KJV)
Once,
in days gone by, God in His righteous and holy wrath, destroyed
the Earth by a Flood. Genesis 6:5 And God saw that
the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every
imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (KJV)
Genesis
6:13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh
is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through
them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. (KJV) Genesis 6:17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a
flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein
is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing
that is in the earth shall die. (KJV)
The
world that then was, overflowed with water as a judgment from
Almighty God, and all except Noah, his family and all in the
ark perished. But God promised He would never destroy the
Earth again by a Flood (Gen.9:8-17; Isa.54:9). The next time
the heavens and the earth, which are now, are reserved unto
fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly
men. God will use fire to destroy the
Earth the next time.
Isaiah
63:6 And I will tread down the people in mine
anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down
their strength to the earth. (KJV) Our
holy and completely righteous God will crush the nations in
His wrath. Most people will turn away from such Scriptures.
"I don’t like this. And besides, MY loving God would
NOT do anything like this." Wrong, my friend! He’s done
it in the past, and He will do it again in the future. Don’t
be like an ostrich, and bury your head in the sand, then read John 14:1-3 or some other comforting passage of Scripture.
Believe me, if you have rejected Jesus, John 14:1-3 does
NOT apply to you.
You
must face up to Isaiah 63:6, and all the other verses on God’s
wrath. The next time our Lord Jesus
comes, He will not be the humble and gentle Man who came the
first time. He shall come in blazing judgment. He was
rejected when He came nearly 2000 years ago, and He has been
rejected by mankind ever since. When
He comes the next time, He will be KING OF KINGS, AND LORD
OF LORDS (Rev. 19:16), and no one shall reject Him.
Isaiah
45:23 I have sworn by myself, the word is gone
out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That
unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. (KJV)
Romans
14:11 For it is written, As I live, saith the
Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess
to God. (KJV)
Philip.
2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should
bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things
under the earth; (KJV) This is NOT happening today! But,
I promise you, that one day, soon, it SHALL happen! You either
bow to Him now (willingly), and confess Him as Lord, or you
shall do it one day because God tells you to do it.
Jeremiah
10:10 But the Lord is the true God, he is the
living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth
shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide
his indignation. (KJV) There are a multitude of "gods"
in the world today! But there is only one true God, the Creator
of the universe, the God of the Bible. The
Lord is the only true God, the living God. He is the everlasting
King! And one day the whole Earth shall tremble at His Holy
and righteous anger. NO one shall be able to hide before His
fury.
Ezekiel
7:4-9 And mine eye shall not spare thee,
neither will I have pity: but I will recompense thy ways upon
thee, and thine abominations shall be in the midst of thee:
and ye shall know that I am the Lord. [5] Thus saith the Lord
God; An evil, an only evil, behold, is come. [6] An end is
come, the end is come: it watcheth for thee; behold, it is
come. [7] The morning is come unto thee, O thou that dwellest
in the land: the time is come, the day of trouble is near,
and not the sounding again of the mountains. [8] Now will
I shortly pour out my fury upon thee, and accomplish mine
anger upon thee: and I will judge thee according to
thy ways, and will recompense thee for all thine abominations.
[9] And mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity:
I will recompense thee according to thy ways and thine abominations
that are in the midst of thee; and ye shall know that I am
the Lord that smiteth. (KJV) This is a tremendous portion
of Scripture! Ezekiel’s language is mild compared to the Book
of Revelation and Matthew 25. The God of the New Testament
is the same Person as the God of the Old Testament, and He
will punish sin in all ages.
God
states that He will turn away His eyes and show no pity on
those who continue in sin. He will repay any and all in full
for all their evil. When this happens, people will finally
admit that He is the Lord!
With
one blow after another He brought disaster in the Old Testament,
but my friend, this is speaking about the future as well.
God will take just so much and His wrath will take hold! 2
Peter 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now,
by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against
the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. (KJV) People keep piling up their sins; the nations of the world
keep piling up their sins. Romans 2:5 But after thy hardness
and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against
the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment
of God; (KJV) Rev. 18:5 For her sins have reached unto
heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. (KJV) God shall judge ALL sin!
God
shall one day command that the heavens and the earth
be consumed by fire on that day of judgment, when ALL ungodly
people will perish eternally in the Lake of Fire. The
end of this world as we know it shall one day end. Doom awaits
ALL sinners (unbelievers, those not born
again).
Ezekiel
was deeply affected by the prospect of these calamities. Such
will the destruction of sinners be; for NO sinner can avoid
it. We must reach out with love and the Gospel of Jesus to
lost souls that their wickedness might not bring them to an
agonizing end! The day of real trouble is near, at our doors!
The Rapture could occur at any moment, and then the Great
Tribulation begins. See 1 Thes.4:13-18 for the Rapture. Sin
is and always has been the root of all of God’s judgments.
These judgments shall be world wide, and God will be glorified
in all.
It
is still the day of the Lord’s love, grace, patience and mercy,
but beware, the time of the sinner’s trouble is at close at
hand.
Ezekiel
24:13 In thy filthiness is lewdness: because I
have purged thee, and thou wast not purged, thou shalt not be purged from thy filthiness any more, till have caused
my fury to rest upon thee. (KJV) Just as was in the Old
Testament, it is today! SIN is everywhere! NO repentance.
The filth and corruption of people’s lewdness (indecent, immoral,
lustful activities), and their idolatry (worship of anything
or anyone other than God), God’s fury will rest upon them.
God tried to cleanse the Israelites, but they refused, they
remained filthy in His sight until His fury was satisfied.
It shall be so in the Judgment to come. His Holy and righteous wrath will rest on ALL sinners.
Nahum
1:2 God is jealous, and the Lord revengeth; the
Lord revengeth, and is furious; the Lord will take vengeance
on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies. (KJV) WHO are God’s enemies?? The Bible clearly tells us! Everyone without Jesus! Romans
5:9-10 Much more then, being now justified by his blood,
we shall be saved from wrath through him. [10] For if, when
we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of
his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by
his life. (KJV) IF a person is God’s
enemy, then they are in opposition to Him; since they are
not children of God . . . they are children of the devil. 1 John 3:10 In
this the children of God are manifest, and the children of
the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God,
neither he that loveth not his brother. (KJV)
Psalm
139:20 For they speak against thee wickedly, and
thine enemies take thy name in vain. (KJV) God’s enemies
speak evil of Him, taking His Name in vain and blaspheming
Him just as Satan does and Antichrist will (Rev.13:5-6). Some
other verses on God’s enemies: Ex.15:6; Deut.32:41; Jud.5:31;
1 Sam.2:10; Ps.21:8; Ps.97:3; Isa.42:13; Isa.66:6; Nah.1:2; Luke
20:43; Acts 5:39; Jam.4:4.
God’s
Holy and righteous wrath shall come down hard on ALL His enemies!
Zeph.
1:18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able
to deliver them in the day of the Lord's wrath; but the whole
land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he
shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in
the land. (KJV) Those who are powerful and wealthy and
have no concern for the common people, shall one day face
the terrifying wrath of God. NONE of their silver and gold
will be of any use to them on that day of the Lord's wrath.
They shall be judged according to their works. He will make
a terrifying end of them.
Eccles.
12:14 For God shall bring every work into judgment,
with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it
be evil. (KJV)
Rev.
20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were
in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were
in them: and they were judged every man according to their
works. (KJV)
Matthew
3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and
Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O
generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the
wrath to come? (KJV) Many today know little about the Bible, but they know enough
to know that it speaks of God’s wrath and judgment (often).
Why then won’t people forsake their continued practice of
sin? 1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. (KJV) Anyone who practices sin, practices
lawlessness; because sin is lawlessness. John the Baptist
called hypocrites some nasty names, the same as our Lord did
in the 23rd chapter of Matthew.
John
3:18 He that believeth on
him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned
already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only
begotten Son of God. (KJV)
John
3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting
life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. (KJV)
John
8:24 I said therefore
unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe
not that I am he, ye shall die in your sin. (KJV)
Romans
1:18-20 For the wrath of God is revealed from
heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men,
who hold the truth in unrighteousness; [19] Because that which
may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed
it unto them. [20] For the invisible things of him from the
creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by
the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead;
so that they are without excuse: (KJV) Does
anyone have an excuse for not believing in God? The Bible
says NO. God reveals what He is like in and through His creation.
Every person must either accept or reject God. When Judgment
Day comes, God will judge your response to Him. NO excuses
will stand up.
How
could a loving God send anyone to Hell? . . . especially someone who has never heard about Christ?
God clearly reveals Himself in the Creation to ALL people.
Yet people reject even this basic knowledge of God. Also,
everyone has an inner sense of what God requires, but they
choose not to live as they know He’d want them to live. People’s
behavior is always worse than what they feel is right in their
heart. When people suppress God’s Truth and live their own
way, they have NO excuse. They know the truth, and they will
one day, face the wrath of a Holy God.
Romans
2:5-11 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart
treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath
and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; [6] Who will
render to every man according to his deeds: [7] To them who
by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour
and immortality, eternal life: [8] But unto them that are
contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness,
indignation and wrath, [9] Tribulation and anguish, upon every
soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and
also of the Gentile; [10] But glory, honour, and peace, to
every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to
the Gentile: [11] For there is no respect of persons with
God. (KJV) Our way of life shall
be the basis of our judgment. The so-called "do-gooder"
(unbeliever) will be judged according to his works. Rev. 20:12 And
I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the
books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the
book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things
which were written in the books, according to their works. (KJV) At the judgment, the books shall be opened. These "books"
symbolize God’s judgment. In them are recorded the deeds (good
or evil) of everyone. We are NOT saved by deeds, but after
we are saved, deeds we do are very clear evidence of a person’s
actual relationship with God. The book of life contains
only the names of those who have put their trust in Christ
to save them. NO unbeliever’s name will be found in this awesome
book.
Ephes.
5:5-7 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor
unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath
any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. [6] Let
no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things
cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
[7] Be not ye therefore partakers with them. (KJV) We
are not forbidden all contact with unbelievers. Jesus tells
us to befriend sinners and lead them to Him (Luke 5:30-32). Here Paul is speaking against approving of the life-style
of people who make excuses for bad behavior and recommend
its practice to others; in or out of church. We must befriend
unbelievers if we are to lead them to Christ, but we must
be wary of those who are viciously evil, immoral, or opposed
to all that Christianity stands for. Such people are far more
likely to influence us for evil than we are likely to influence
them for good.
Rev.
21:7-8 He that overcometh
shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall
be my son. [8] But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable,
and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters,
and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth
with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (KJV) WHO is He that overcometh?? The
Bible also tells us the answer to this. Our ministry’s motto
is "The
Bible Has The Answer," and
I firmly believe this!
1
John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have
overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than
he that is in the world. (KJV) God
(Holy Spirit) is greater than Satan or any evil.
1
John 5:4-5 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh
the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world,
even our faith. [5] Who is he that overcometh the world, but
he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? (KJV) Everyone who born again into
the family of God (John 1:12-13) overcomes the world. Every
child of God defeats this evil world (overcomes) by believing
that Jesus is the Son of God, and trusting Him to give
us victory. ANYONE (red, yellow, black or white) who overcomes shall never experience the wrath of God.
BENEFITS
OF OVERCOMERS
Rev.
2:7 He that hath an ear,
let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him
that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which
is in the midst of the paradise of God. (KJV) To overcome means to be victorious by believing in Christ,
being consistent, remaining faithful, and living as one who
follows Christ. Such a life shall one day allow us access
to Heaven (the Paradise of God). Rev.
2:11 He that hath an ear,
let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that
overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death. (KJV) Believers and unbelievers alike will experience
physical death, unless the Rapture takes place (1 Thes.4:13-18). Then believers who are alive will ascend directly to eternal
life. ALL people will be resurrected in one of two resurrections
(Dan.12:2; Rev.20:5-6,13), but believers will be resurrected
to eternal life with God while unbelievers will be resurrected
to be punished with a second death (Lake of Fire, Hell), eternal
separation from God (2 Thes. 1:8-9; Rev. 20:14; 21:8, 27;
22:15). See: Hell. Rev. 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it. (KJV) "Hidden manna" symbolizes the spiritual nourishment that the faithful believers will receive. As the Israelites traveled toward the Promised Land, God provided manna from Heaven for their physical nourishment (Ex.16:13-18). Jesus, as the bread of life (John 6:51), provides spiritual nourishment that satisfies our deepest spiritual hunger. The new name is Christ's, possibly some new revelation
of Himself which shall be imparted to His people, and which
they alone are capable of receiving; possibly a different
name to each of us, that symbolizes what He means to us. I
feel that there must be a connection with the hidden manna and the white stone, for none save the high priest
alone had access to the manna hidden in the sanctuary, and
only he had access to the Urim stone on his breastplate. Believers,
as spiritual priests unto God (1 Pet.2:9), shall enjoy the
heavenly symbols of the hidden manna and the Urim stone.
The
white stones are important because they are the evidence that
a person has been accepted by God and declared worthy to receive
eternal life. Rev.
2:26 And he that overcometh,
and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power
over the nations: (KJV) Jesus says that those who overcome (those who remain faithful until the end and
continue to please God) will rule over Christ’s enemies and
reign with Him as He judges evil. (1 Cor. 6:2-3). Rev.
3:5 He that overcometh,
the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not
blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess
his name before my Father, and before his angel. (KJV) To be dressed in white means to be made pure
and set apart for God. Christ Jesus promises future honor
and eternal life to those who stand firm in their faith. The
names of all believers are registered in the book of life.
This book symbolizes God’s knowledge of all those who belong
to Him. All people written in the book of life are
introduced to the hosts of Heaven as belonging to Christ (Luke
12:8-9). Rev.
3:12 Him that overcometh
will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall
go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God,
and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem,
which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write
upon him my new name. (KJV) The New Jerusalem (Heaven)
is the future dwelling of the people of God (Rev. 21:2). We
will have a new citizenship in God’s future Kingdom. Everything
will be absolutely beautiful, new and completely secure. In
one respect, there will be no temple (Rev.21:22) in
the City of Gold, because there shall be no separation of
holy and worldly things, because ALL things and ALL persons
shall be holy to the Lord, for NOTHING evil will be permitted
there. The entire City shall be all one great temple, in which
the saints shall be spiritual pillars. Rev.
3:21 To him that overcometh
will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame,
and am set down with my Father in his throne. (KJV)
The faithful are given this Promise, a seat with Christ on
His throne, even as He has sat with His Father on His Father's
throne. Jesus invites everyone who is victorious to sit with
Him on His throne. Rev.
21:7 I will be his God, and he shall be my son. (KJV) ALL those who overcome, stand firm to the end (Mark 13:13) shall receive ALL the blessings that God promised:
(1) eating from the tree of life (Rev. 2:7), (2) escaping
from the lake of fire (the "second death," Rev. 2:11), (3) receiving a special name (Rev. 2:17), (4)
having authority over the nations (Rev. 2:26), (5) being included
in the book of life (Rev. 3:5), (6) being a pillar
in God’s spiritual temple (Rev. 3:12), and (7) sitting with
Christ on His throne (Rev. 3:21). Those who endure the testing
of evil and remain faithful will be greatly rewarded by God,
and they shall never experience God’s wrath.
