How
Can I Stop Worrying?
Worry
is agitation, anxiety, confusion, distress,
disquietness, distress, disturbed, dread,
doubt, fear, fretting, misgiving, mistrust,
torment, upset, etc. Worry is a very self-destructive
emotion. It shows a lack of faith (doubt,
which is sin, Hebrews 11:6) on our part,
that God truly does loves us and is always
in control. We should not worry but instead
trust God, giving ourselves completely
over to Him. Any time you dwell on your
problems, you will become anxious and
angry, and quite often the things you
worry about never even happen. A favorite
expression of a lady in one of my classes
is: "You are crossing bridges that
have never been built." If, on the
other hand, you concentrate on God and
His goodness, you will find peace and
contentment deep within.
Psalm
37:8-9 Cease from anger, and
forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any
wise to do evil. [9] For evildoers shall
be cut off: but those that wait upon the
Lord, they shall inherit the earth.
[KJV] A worried, discontented spirit is
wide open to many temptations.
Proverbs
20:24 Man's goings are of
the Lord; how can a man then understand
his own way?[KJV] We cannot understand
the road we travel, for the Lord directs
our steps. A child of God should never
make plans or conduct any business, without
the Lord. We often get confused by events
around us. Some things we’ll never understand;
while others seem to fall into place.
We should never worry if we don’t understand
everything that happens. Instead, trust
that God knows what He is doing.
Matthew
6:25 Therefore
I say unto you, Take no thought for your
life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall
drink; nor yet for your body, what ye
shall put on. Is not the life more than
meat, and the body than raiment? [KJV] Worry can cause ill effects on your
health. God has promised to supply all
our needs (Phil. 4:19).
Worry
can:
- (1)
damage your health,
- (2)
consume your thoughts,
- (3)
disrupt your ability,
- (4) affect the way you treat others, and
- (5)
decrease your faith in God.
Worry
can immobilize you, whereas concern moves you to action. Our Lord
Jesus warns His disciples about worry; it disquiets and distracts.
Jesus says we shouldn’t worry about the length of our life; but
let God lengthen or shorten it as He desires. We are in his Hand,
and there is no better place to be! We shouldn’t worry about the
comforts of this life; but let God make it bitter or sweet as He
pleases. Food and clothing God has promised, so therefore we can
expect them. Don’t worry about tomorrow, for it may never come for
you. If we seek first the Kingdom of God, we will always be well
provided for, even in this world. By our daily prayers we receive
strength to bear us up under any daily troubles, and help us fight
against the temptations.
